Planning Your Indoor Sauna

A well-planned sauna starts with the right room dimensions, layout and building requirements. Consider these key factors before you begin to create a comfortable, efficient and properly designed indoor sauna.

Room size and layout

Room Size and Layout

Choose a location and determine the room size based on your available space, number of users and preferred bench configuration.

Ceiling height

Ceiling Height

A ceiling height of 7 feet or less is recommended for optimal heat performance and efficiency, keeping more usable heat where sauna users can benefit from it.

Ventilation

Ventilation

Proper ventilation provides fresh air, helping your sauna operate efficiently. Plan for a fresh-air intake below or near the heater and an adjustable exhaust vent on the opposite wall to promote natural airflow.

Heater and electrical

Heater and Electrical

Choose a heater sized for your sauna’s cubic footage and plan for the required electrical connection. Electric sauna heaters require a dedicated 220–240V circuit and professional installation.

Door and bench layout

Door and Bench Layout

Sauna doors must swing outward. Plan your bench layout to maximize seating and, where space permits, allow at least 6 feet in one direction so users can comfortably lie down.

Flexible DIY
Sauna Material Packages

The material-package approach gives you the flexibility to design the sauna around your available space instead of fitting your space around a predetermined sauna.

Choose your room size, bench layout, door location, heater and other design options to create a custom indoor sauna that fits your home and how you plan to use it.

Indoor Sauna Cost

The cost of an indoor sauna depends on the size of the sauna, heater requirements, materials and the type of
sauna kit you choose. Smaller sauna rooms generally require fewer materials and a lower-capacity heater, while
larger rooms require additional cedar, larger benches and a more powerful heater.

What Affects the Cost of an Indoor Sauna?

Sauna Size

Larger sauna rooms require more cedar, insulation, bench material and heating capacity. Larger rooms generally require higher-capacity heaters, as the heater must be properly sized for the cubic volume of the sauna.

Kit Type

A pre-cut DIY sauna kit is installed within an existing framed room, while a pre-built sauna kit includes the complete sauna enclosure. A pre-built sauna kit generally has a higher upfront cost.

Options and Upgrades

Custom sauna configurations may include additional options such as upgraded doors, lighting, controls, bench layouts and other features. Selections made through our 3D Sauna Configurator can affect the final price.

DIY Sauna Kits Cost By Size

For example, our smallest DIY Sauna Kit starts at 4' x 4' and includes a 4 kW electric heater, with a starting price of
C$5,870.00. Our largest DIY Sauna Kit measures up to 8' x 8', includes a 9 kW heater, and starts at C$9,900.00. We offer a
wide range of sizes in between to accommodate different spaces, sauna layouts and budgets.
