Sauna cabins ship as panelized kits with the walls, ceiling, benches, door, heater, and finish trim already built — you stand them up like a closet rather than framing a room from scratch. We stock 7 cabins covering indoor and outdoor installs, from a $8,129 indoor 1414S kit (single-person basement size) up to a $22,000 8-foot Red Cedar Modern Panoramic with a 2-foot porch. Indoor cabins go in basements, garages, and spare rooms. Outdoor cabins are weather-sealed for backyard installation on a concrete or gravel pad.
Indoor vs outdoor cabin: pick first
Indoor cabins (the 1414S, 1420ML, and 2020ML models) are interior-only — they have no exterior siding, no weatherproofing, no roof structure. They sit inside a heated building. Easier to ship, cheaper, and they don't need a foundation. Best for a basement corner, a spare bedroom, or a garage you don't park in.
Outdoor cabins (the 1420ML, 2020ml, and Panoramic models) have weather-tight exterior siding, a roof, and treated structural framing. They go on a foundation pad outdoors. More expensive but no real-estate impact on your living space, and they keep their resale value if you sell the house.
Cabin sizes and capacity
1414S (indoor only, $8,129): 4×4 ft footprint, single user, smallest cabin we sell. Fits in a closet-sized space.
1420ML (indoor $10,907 / outdoor $13,273): 4×7 ft. Two people on the upper bench, third on the lower. The most popular indoor model.
2020ML (indoor $14,256 / outdoor $17,640): 7×7 ft. Three to four people comfortably. Family-size, fits a family bathroom or finished basement room.
6-ft and 8-ft Panoramic Modern Cabins ($16,000-$22,000): outdoor only, contemporary styling, large glass front for view. Includes 2-ft porch with the 8-ft version.
Cabin construction: how it ships
Pre-built wall panels (cedar tongue-and-groove on the interior, structural framing inside, exterior siding on outdoor models), a finished cedar ceiling section, a glass-insert cedar door, pre-assembled bench frames with cedar tops, the heater sized to the room, sauna rocks, ladle and bucket, vent hardware. Outdoor cabins also include the metal roof, roof flashing, and rain-gutter hardware.
Assembly is faster than pre-cut kits because the wall panels are already done. Most owners stand up an indoor 1420ML solo in a day; an outdoor 2020ml takes a weekend with one helper.
Foundation requirements (outdoor only)
Outdoor cabins need a level, well-drained pad. Options: poured concrete (most permanent, easiest to level), pea gravel over a compacted base (cheapest, drains well), or pressure-treated 4×4 sleepers on gravel. The pad should extend 6 inches beyond the cabin footprint on all sides.
Electrical: 240V dedicated circuit for the heater. Run conduit underground or through a pre-installed wall passage; bring it to a junction box inside the cabin near the heater.
What sets these apart from DIY pre-cut kits
Pre-cut kits (we sell those too — see DIY pre-cut sauna kits) ship as boards that you frame and install board-by-board. Cabins ship as completed wall panels. Pre-cut is cheaper per square foot and lets you customize layout; cabins are faster to install and have a cleaner finished look. Both end up identical-feeling once running.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a permit for an outdoor sauna cabin?
The cabin itself usually qualifies as an accessory structure under 200 sq ft and is permit-exempt in most jurisdictions. The 240V electrical circuit always needs a permit and a licensed electrician.
Can I move an indoor sauna cabin later?
The 1414S yes — it disassembles into 4 wall panels and a ceiling that fit through a standard doorway. The larger 2020ML is harder — you'd need to take down the upper benches and disassemble panels.
How long does an outdoor cabin sauna last in northern climates?
25-30 years with reasonable care. Reseal the exterior cedar every 3-5 years, replace the roof flashing if it shows wear at 15 years, oil the bench tops annually. The structural frame outlasts most owners.
Does the cabin include the sauna heater?
Yes — every cabin ships with the heater sized for the room. 4kW for the 1414S, 5-6kW for the 1420ML, 7.5kW for the 2020ml, and 6kW for the Panoramic Modern series.
What's the warm-up time for an indoor cabin sauna?
25-30 minutes from cold to 170°F with the included heater. Smaller cabins (1414S) heat faster, larger ones slightly longer.
